Chiefs Kingdom Witnesses the Rise of "Playoff Trav" as Kelce Dominates Texans

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The postseason has become synonymous with the emergence of a different Travis Kelce, a phenomenon that has captivated Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. In their divisional round victory over the Houston Texans, 23-14, Kelce once again transformed into "Playoff Trav," showcasing the dominance that has become his hallmark in the playoffs.

"This is what he lives for, is playing in these moments, having the chance to make big-time plays," Mahomes remarked after the game. "He goes out there and does that, and it seems like he does it in every single playoff game. He doesn't let the moment be bigger than what it is. He just goes out there and executes at a high level just like he does in a regular-season game. He just does that with a little bit higher intensity."

Kelce's impact on the game was undeniable. He hauled in seven receptions for 117 yards, including a crucial 11-yard touchdown grab from Mahomes in the fourth quarter. This marked his first 100-yard receiving game of the season and an astonishing ninth in his playoff career, solidifying his place in NFL history.

A consistent trend has emerged in Kelce's playoff performances: he consistently surpasses his regular-season yard-per-game average. Against the Texans, he more than doubled his season average of 56 receiving yards per game, a testament to his elevated level of play in the postseason.

When asked about this remarkable transformation, Kelce humbly admitted, "I wish it was some type of switch or something that I just turned on in the playoffs." He attributed his enhanced performance to the extended break before the playoffs. At 35 years old, the extra three weeks of rest proved invaluable, allowing him to enter the postseason feeling rejuvenated and ready to make a significant impact. Mahomes echoed Kelce's sentiments, acknowledging the positive impact of the extended break on his teammate's performance.
